After playing in T/T/T together for a couple years Mike and I had chatted about doing a split together as we were both gearing up to promote new records but were in a holding pattern. The results were this split.

Both sides recorded separately by our buddy Neil Strauch, we did the IIOI session together at Strobe Studios in Humboldt Park, Chicago. That studio is now no longer so this acts a nice keepsake.

This wound up being the last session recorded with Nick on the drums before his pursuit of medicine became a full time priority.

It was agreed upon early that we would cover each others songs. Considering how guitar centric Mike is, I wanted to do a version of my favorite song (Poor Souls) completely on my favorite sounding instrument (the rhodes piano). Mike decided to turn one of my softest songs (Anchor) into a Screeching Weasel cover. Both have their charms.

Since this split Local Language had become a live staple. There was pressure to rerecord that song during the making of Standards, but I wanted to let it be considering that was Nick's thumbprint. I didn't feel it appropriate to redo what wasn't broken.
